Venice, Veneto, Italy
Well we have come to our final day in Italy. We spent the day sightseeing and took a 3 hour cruise of the Grand Canal and other canals as well…not intentionally since we took the wrong vaporetto and ended getting a tour of the outer canal which was mostly the real Venice including some industrial sections. It was not the tourist part of Venice but still interesting. Once we got on the right water ferry we had a wonderful tour of the complete Grand Canal.
We also went to Saint Mark’s Basilica. The inside was different from other churches we have been to. All the frescos we done in mosaic tile. Beautiful. After Rome and Florence we didn’t think we would go to any more churches. You can only see so many Virgin Marys and child. But Saint Marks was well worth it. We also went to the Doge’s Palace but did not go in. The lineup was way too long so we only saw it from the outside. Overall is was a great day capped off by a great dinner at a small restaurant just outside of our hotel.
Sad to see our trip come to an end but it will also be great to be home again. We will have our pictures to remind us of our trip to Italy. We have taken over 1,200 photos. Thank the Lord for digital. We can go through them and delete the out of focus, duplicates etc.
